چکیده

This paper, presents an evaluation of Three Dimensional (3D) unistroke human arm gestures. Our scheme employs an accelerometer-based approach by using NintendoTM Wiimote as a gesture device. The system takes acceleration signals from Wiimote in order to, classify different gestures. It deals with numeric gestures, i.e., digits from 0 to 9 and simple mathematical operator gestures for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Two techniques, Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) and 2D trajectories are used to recognize and classify gestures. Successful recognition rates indicate that performing 3D gestures using accelerometer-based devices is intuitive and provides an effective means of interaction with

Investigating the Characteristics of Unistroke Gestures using a Mobile Game

Touch gestures are today’s main input method for the interaction with smart phones. In particular, unistroke gestures, which are gestures consisting of one articulated line, are commonly used for text input (touch keyboards) and short cuts referring to functions on mobile devices. This work investigates the user’s accuracy of articulating unistroke touch gestures on mobile devices. Therefore, t...

An accelerometer-based gesture recognition algorithm and its application for 3D interaction

This paper proposes an accelerometer-based gesture recognition algorithm. As a pre-process procedure, raw data output by accelerometer should be quantized, and then use discrete Hidden Markov Model to train and recognize them. Based upon this recognition algorithm, we treat gesture as a method of human-computer interaction and use it in 3D interaction subsystem in VR system named VDOM by follow...

A Recognition Method for One-Stroke Finger Gestures Using a MEMS 3D Accelerometer

Automatic recognition of finger gestures can be used for promotion of life quality. For example, a senior citizen can control the home appliance, call for help in emergency, or even communicate with others through simple finger gestures. Here, we focus on one-stroke finger gesture, which are intuitive to be remembered and performed. In this paper, we proposed and evaluated an accelerometer-base...

$N-protractor: a fast and accurate multistroke recognizer

Prior work introduced $N, a simple multistroke gesture recognizer based on template matching, intended to be easy to port to new platforms for rapid prototyping, and derived from the unistroke $1 recognizer. $N uses an iterative search method to find the optimal angular alignment between two gesture templates, like $1 before it. Since then, Protractor has been introduced, a unistroke pen and fi...

Gesture-based User Authentication for Mobile Devicesusing Accelerometer and Gyroscope

In this paper a user authentication mechanism for handheld mobile devices using hand gestures is presented. To authenticate a prior chosen hand gesture needs to be repeated. The mobile device uses a 3D-accelerometer and a 3D-gyroscope to measure the resulting device movement. With a user study it was shown, that the presented approach is feasible and has advantages with regard to usability over...
